UniProtKB description: Catalyzes the reduction of the glycolytic intermediate dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) to sn-glycerol 3-phosphate (G3P). Shows a 15-fold preference for NADPH over NADH in the reduction process. Can also catalyze the reverse reaction in vitro. Shows no activity with dihydroxyacetone, glycerol, glycerol-2-phosphate, D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate, DL-glyceraldehyde, D-erythrose-4-phosphate, D-fructose-6-phosphate, beta-D-glucose-6-phosphate, or alpha-D-galactose-1-phosphate.
