UniProtKB description:  Heme-based protein that deliver nitric oxide gas (NO) to the victim while feeding, resulting in vasodilation and inhibition of platelet aggregation (PubMed:10501007, PubMed:9363788). Reversibly binds nitric oxide (NO) (PubMed:10501007, PubMed:7721773, PubMed:9363788). Also binds tightly to histamine, which is released by the host to induce wound healing (PubMed:15866866). Exhibits anticoagulant activity (PubMed:10884386, PubMed:20838739, PubMed:8743181, PubMed:9363788). Inhibits interaction of activated host coagulation factor IXa (F9) with phospholipids (PubMed:10692472). Inhibits factor IXa (F9)-catalyzed activation of factor X (F10) in the presence of calcium and phospholipids irrespective of the presence or absence of factor VIIIa (F8) (PubMed:10692472, PubMed:15866866, PubMed:8743181).
