UniProtKB description:  Attaches the virus to the human SLAMF1/CD150 receptor for entry into host dendritic cells, macrophages, activated memory T cells and naive or memory B cells, thereby explaining the long immunosuppression that follows infection (By similarity). In the respiratory airways, binds to the NECTIN4 receptor for entry into the host cell (PubMed:22048310). During viral entry or virus-mediated fusion between infected cells and neighboring susceptible cells, the head domain of the H protein initially binds to its receptor and then the stalk region of the H protein transmits the fusion-triggering signal to the F protein (PubMed:23027974). Unilateral receptor binding to only one of the covalently linked dimer pairs in the H tetramer is sufficient for F triggering (PubMed:23027974). In case of neuropathogenic strains, host CADM1 (isoform 5) and CADM2 (isoform 5) can interact with measles hemagglutinin to trigger hyperfusogenic F-mediated membrane fusion and presumably transsynaptic cell-to-cell transmission of the virus (PubMed:29298883, PubMed:37166307).
